iPLATO scales at home Blood Pressure monitoring  to 3m myGP users with Lifelight

  • iPLATO’s myGP app integrates Lifelight’s remote vital signs technology,
empowering 3 million users to monitor their hypertension via their own smartphones
  • Makes blood pressure monitoring easily accessible – anytime, anywhere via the myGP app
  • Seamlessly aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan’s focus on preventive care, digital transformation, and reducing health inequalities by addressing hypertension

London, 27th February 2024:  In a groundbreaking next step for digital healthcare, iPLATO – part of Huma – has partnered with Lifelight, a cutting-edge novel technology to bring convenient blood pressure monitoring to 3 million users of the myGP app.

According to GOV.UK, Hypertension affects 12 million people in the UK and is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD).  CVD still the leading cause of death globally (WHO). In addition, the British Heart Foundation suggest that as many as 5 million adults in the UK alone could be living with undiagnosed high blood pressure (hypertension).

With only approx. 30% of diagnosed hypertensives self-monitoring their blood pressure at home, the myGP app bolstered with Lifelight wants to change this picture – finding the “unreached” –  those with undiagnosed hypertension and make it easy for everyone to monitor their blood pressure.

Since integrating Lifelight into myGP at the end of November last year, usage is growing fast, including a high number of repeat users returning to the app to monitor their blood pressure, demonstrating trust in Lifelight and its ease-of-use.

Currently available to iOS myGP users, given the strong uptake to date, Lifelight will shortly be made available to Android users, further increasing usage and empowering more people who want to take responsibility for their own health.

Lifelight provides the ability for myGP users to easily check their blood pressure themselves at home, with on-screen instructions to guide them.  As well as providing fast vital signs readings, one of the key benefits of Lifelight is the user experience – zero contact – no uncomfortable cuff, no need to undress, no wearables – users simply look at their smartphone screen for 40 seconds.

Often more convenient, myGP’s existing 3 million users can access Lifelight securely from the comfort of their homes.  This is where Lifelight can really scale, driving efficiencies with improved health outcomes.  Ultimately saving more lives, and addressing healthcare inequalities by reaching more people at risk of CVD early and providing access to the right care pathway.

Supporting goals outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan, the collaboration harnesses digital innovation to enhance preventive care and early detection of health conditions, aligning with the plan’s focus on a digitally-enabled healthcare system.

“We recognise how much this partnership can help our users to easily track their blood pressure. Integrating Lifelight’s capabilities into the myGP app not only makes blood pressure monitoring convenient but also supports our commitment to empowering users to manage their health effectively.”
myGP CEO and Founder Tobias Alpsten stated

Laurence Pearce, Lifelight’s CEO and Founder said, “According to GOV.UK, the cost to the NHS of high blood pressure is estimated at over £2bn every year.  However, high blood pressure is preventable, and for those with high blood pressure a reduction of just 10mmHg can significantly reduce their risk of a heart attack or stroke. This means identifying, diagnosing and managing hypertension is more vital now than ever, which Lifelight can support via a user’s own smartphone.  We’re driven by the success and acceptance of myGP users, allowing us to scale Lifelight and look forward to reaching more people as usage increases, enabling us to support as many people as possible to effectively manage their blood pressure.”
