Huma Intelligence & Selfbook: patient communication as you’ve never experienced before

By Adam Faucheux, Field CEO at iPLATO.

This month, we were delighted to launch our newest innovative feature, Huma Intelligence, an AI powered message improver, along with the latest version of Selfbook. As digital tools continue to reshape healthcare, our commitment at iPLATO is to build solutions that empower practices, support patients, and drive efficiency.

Huma Intelligence: where AI meets healthcare

Huma Intelligence is already changing the healthcare game. In this application within Huma Workspace for Primary Care, it delivers improvements to the quality of language used in patient messaging while simultaneously reducing SMS costs.

In healthcare, clarity and brevity are crucial, but achieving both can be challenging in patient communication. Initial trials indicate a 20% reduction in SMS costs, allowing GPs, PCNs and ICBs to optimise their budgets without compromising message quality.

The use of AI in healthcare communications is not just about cost-saving—it’s also about enhancing understanding and adherence. Studies, such as those from the National Institutes of Health, highlight that clear, concise communication leads to better patient outcomes and fewer missed appointments. Huma Intelligence is set to have a reading age of 9-11 years, which is inline with the NHS Digital Service Manual. AI’s ability to refine language and ensure messages are tailored to patient comprehension levels is a step forward in improving health literacy and engagement.

Our work at iPLATO, and across the Primary Care space within Huma Workspace, reflects our fundamental belief in the transformative role that AI can play—not as a replacement for human expertise, but as a powerful tool that supports practitioners and enhances patient experiences. I’m excited to see the ways in which Huma Intelligence will help practices communicate more effectively and drive patient engagement, while keeping costs down.

Selfbook: Leading the way in digital patient engagement

With Selfbook, we’ve created a tool designed to simplify the booking process while providing practices with robust management capabilities. This release includes several key features that enhance Selfbook’s utility and position it as a leader in the field, especially against competitors like AccuRx.

Our unique advantages:

Campaign reach—up to 100,000 patients: Scaling outreach is critical, especially in high-demand campaigns. Selfbook’s capacity to import and manage up to 100,000 patients in a single campaign is an industry game-changer, allowing practices to engage large groups swiftly and efficiently.

Integrated questionnaires with booking link: We know that patient engagement is more than just scheduling. Imagine having all the key patient information you need before they even step through the door. With this new update, you don’t have to imagine! Practices can include customised, integrated questionnaires directly with the booking link. This seamless combination means GPs can spend less time gathering data and more time providing patient care.

Valuable insights: Users will now have the ability to measure campaign statistics and monitor how their patients use Selfbook. This makes it incredibly easy for practices to keep on top of their patients and follow up when necessary. Lastly, users now have the flexibility to correct any mistakes in their campaign and even extend it if the statistics indicate low engagement or uptake.

Here’s what the campaign statistics can measure:

  • Success Rate: The percentage of invited patients who successfully booked their appointment online using iPLATO Selfbook.
  • Booking Timeline: Dates on which appointments were booked.
  • “Booked” Table: A list of patients who have booked appointments, along with their selected slot times.
  • “Not Booked” Table: A list of patients who have not yet booked an appointment using iPLATO Selfbook (note: they may have booked via other means). You can export this data to create a targeted reminder or follow-up campaign.

NHS App compatibility: As more patients turn to the NHS App, integration becomes essential. Selfbook’s compatibility allows patients to book appointments and complete health questionnaires without switching platforms, providing a streamlined experience that aligns with their regular app usage. Another benefit is that this integration allows practices to save on SMS costs.

I look forward to seeing how these solutions will deliver value to the NHS across our 2025 roadmap and beyond. If you have any questions about the above features, please reach out to us at sales@iplato.com
